今回のテーマは【 There の文（７）】です。ここでは、there を使った「～がありましたか」や「～がいましたか」と過去のことについてたずねる疑問文および答え方について学習したいと思います。
① 最初に、次の基本の英文を講師と一緒に確認しましょう。
| 基本の英文 | 語順および意味 |
| Was there a museum in the city? -Yes, there was. | 【語順】 ありましたか 博物館が その都市に? -はい、ありました。 【意味】 その都市には博物館がありましたか。 -はい、ありました。 |
例文は、be 動詞の is の過去形の Was + there + a museum + 場所を表す in the city + ? という語句の並びでできています。「～がありましたか」や「～がいましたか」と過去のことについてたずねる場合は、be 動詞の過去形を先頭にして、～にあたる名詞が単数なら Was there ～? という形を使い、～にあたる名詞が複数なら Were there ～? という形を使います。答え方に関しても、「はい」の場合は Yes, there was. のように Yes, there + be 動詞の過去形. の形を使い、「いいえ」の場合は No, there was not.（=No, there wasn’t.）のように No, there + be 動詞の過去形 + not. の形を使います。
② 次の表の英文を確認し、講師の後に続いて声に出しましょう。

| Were there any pictures on the wall? -Yes, there were. | 壁には絵がかかっていましたか。 -はい、かかっていました。 |
| Were there any plants behind the sofa? -No, there weren’t. | ソファの後ろに植物はありましたか。 -いいえ、ありませんでした。 |
③ 先ほどと同じ英文を、講師の後に続いて声に出しましょう。いくつかの部分は空所になっています。
